Odds and Ends

At the end of each roll of film is an extra frame that doesn’t fit in the sleeve. I always put these into a separate sheet and then when I have a full sheet, I scan them. This is why there is little to no consistency to the images in this post. Enjoy them as single images.

This site is a lot less curated that what I post to flickr. I am a lot more relaxed about what people see here. I am not sure why, but it seems like a good dumping ground for my thoughts.

The Lost Roll

I found a lost roll of film. I developed it and low and behold, here were some Hong Kong pictures from a visa trip and a mountain climbing trip in Beijing from a couple years ago. Enjoy.

Back in Beijing

These two shots are from Hangzhou in Spring Festival. Still working about 6 months behind on my editing and posting. Maybe I should post more to catch up again…

I just had a quick long weekend in Hong Kong. It reaffirmed my thoughts of loving that place. It was hot and humid and I sweated through my clothing and had to wash stuff in the hostel sink. Reminder for next time – two shirts per day, minimum!

Hong Kong – My love affair

I never get sick of going to Hong Kong. The place has everything. One thing I miss about Beijing is the green space. Hong Kong has that is spades. Right now, Beijing is in the midst of winter. It’s cold and brown. It will stay like this for months. Then, we’ll have a few weeks of nice green, then the heat and dust will kick in and it will be back to brown. Why did I choose to live in a desert?

On a different tangent, I would love to live on a boat. A small 30′ sail boat would do me just fine. Moor it in Hong Kong and I’d be a happy camper. (captain)

Hong Kong – I love You

Hong Kong is a city that I have always loved. After my first trip there in 2007 I was justified in my thoughts about it. It has everything that I love. Great food, lights, skyscrapers, water, boats, mountains, trees and endless places to take photos.

My grandfather was there during the Korean war. He tells me stories of the way it was when he was there. I tell him stories of it now. I know that I would loved to have seen it the way it was for him. I don’t think he shares the same feelings. He never was much of a big city person.

The first two photos are from Hanoi Vietnam, and the last three are Hong Kong, my favorite city in the world. All shot on my Leica M2 with Arista Premium 400 and a voigtlander 35 1.4

It’s hot in Beijing. A sweaty, sticky mess.

Hong Kong in May

These are the color shots from my May Hong Kong trip. I am just getting caught up on my back log of scanning. Still have 5 or so more rolls to scan. It is time consuming when I can only scan one strip of six shots at a time. I seriously think I need to get the Epson v700 so I can do 4 strips of 6 at a time. Things would go so much faster and I would be more motivated to scan in a timely manner. Ah well, live with what you have I guess.

I won’t say too much other than my trip companions are now on their way back to Canada and my trip has officially gone solo now.

We had some killer times on the way. We ate many different foods, we climbed the Great Wall, we played in caves filled with mud, we swam in places that we probably shouldn’t have, we drank lots of beer, we biked on a city wall.

We took all forms of transport from Trains, planes to sleeper buses (as much as Clay will vouch for them, they suck ass for 6’3″ people) We met cool people who helped us out big time (Sleepy Inn, Monkey Jane)

From here on in I go into unknown territory. China was a breeze, I’ve spent enough time here, Hong Kong I’ve been to before. Now comes uncharted territory for me… Wish me luck, and check out The StarPhoenix for my pictures.
