This post was technically where my trip began. After leaving Beijing, I hoped on the train to Hangzhou to see Emily before flying out of Shanghai. It wasn’t a long trip, but I always enjoy my time in Linping and Hangzhou, the place where my love of China really began.

Emily is a large part of the reason why I grew to love China. She made that first year in Linping bearable. The place is not the most foreign friendly town, and even though I don’t think she realizes to what extent, but Emily helped me out greatly.

These days, I don’t get to see her as much as I’d like, but I am always thinking about her. The girl rocks.

Today I picked up seven rolls of film from my lab. While I was there I saw two other people dropping film off. Yesterday when I was dropping my film off, I saw a guy buying a box of 4×5 Kodak Ektar. Film is very much alive in Beijing.

Time for a break from the travel photos. Here is a selection from a kindergarten graduation ceremony that I photographed in July. I did my standard edit on these, but the eagle-eyed will notice a few of these have some major scratches on them. I pulled a bone head move when I was drying the […]

Time for a break from the travel photos. Here is a selection from a kindergarten graduation ceremony that I photographed in July. I did my standard edit on these, but the eagle-eyed will notice a few of these have some major scratches on them. I pulled a bone head move when I was drying the negatives and managed to put some decent scratches in about six frames on two rolls. It was because I was rushing. Something that I *know* I can’t do with film. That is not why I shoot film. Live and learn.

I love to go to zoos. I love big animals that I don’t get to see in Canada. Growing up in Saskatoon, we didn’t have a zoo. We had the Forestry Farm. Occasionally they would have an exotic animal like a lion on loan, but usually it was a lot of Bison, Cows and other […]

The zoo in Beijing is sadly depressing. Many zoos are. Enclosures that are too small. Not enough stimulus for the animals. Shitty patrons who bang and yell and throw garbage. I need to go on a safari…
